New restriction on non-original articles

Filed under: Uncategorized — rcondron @ 2:10 am

Over the years we have been seeing a steady increase of blogs that re-post other websites articles (we refer to it as canned content). We over looked this for a long time, but have finally decided that Blogsurfer.us will no longer circulate these so called blogs.

Is my blog at risk of being blocked?
If you write your posts yourself then no. We will be verifying original articles by running web searches for the same content. If your content repeatedly shows up from several different sources then your blog will be blocked.

What if my blog posts are just pictures and not actual articles?
We are only looking at actual text articles.

Will one article re-post get my blog blocked?
No we will run multiple searches on multiple posts before blocking any URL.

Will I be notified if my blog is blocked?
No, you know if you are not writing your own content and can just assume you are already blocked 🙂

How do I report other so called blogs that are posting canned content?
You can report these blogs by clicking the “Block this URL” icon just to the right of the “Currently Reading” text box.

As usual if you have any questions, please feel free to either leave a comment or email us at support [at] blogsurfer.us

Subscription Services

Filed under: Uncategorized — rcondron @ 3:54 am

Here is a brief run down of the BlogSurfer.us subscription services.

Please note a subscription is not required, you may submit your blog to the blogroll as many times as you would like for free.

However, if you do not wish to constantly re-submit your blog manually we currently offer two different levels of subscription that can automate the process for you: Top 100 and Top 200.

Top 100:

The Top 100 subscription automatically re-submits your blog to the BlogSurfer.us blogroll every time it hits the 100th slot. Currently this happens approximately 3-4 times daily. By keeping your blog close to the top of the blogroll your blog will be pulled into the reading cycle more frequently giving your blog exposure to more readers.

The Top 100 subscription is $2 per week, billed weekly.

Top 200:

The Top 200 subscription automatically re-submits your blog to the BlogSurfer.us blogroll every time it hits the 200th slot. Currently this happens approximately twice a day. This subscription level is great for bloggers who want to keep a steady flow of traffic to their blog, but don’t want to visit BlogSurfer.us daily to re-submit their blog.

The Top 200 subscription is $1 per week, billed monthly (4 week intervals).

Both subscription services can be canceled as any time via the below button or directly through your paypal account:

Blog Genome Project

Filed under: Uncategorized — rcondron @ 2:50 am

Help BlogSurfer.us in the very first Blog Genome Project.

Ok so maybe its not really a full blown “Genome Project”, but it’ll do just fine for BlogSurfer.us purposes.

Here’s how it works:
You will notice that a new rating menu has been added to the right of the “Currently Reading” box.

On each blog you stop and read please take a moment to rate it by clicking on one of the stars.

If the blog contains adult/mature/18+ content please click the flag.
This will not block the URL it will simply allow for users to filter out mature content if they choose to.

If the URL is not a “real” blog (i.e. non-blogs, blogvertisements, broken links) please click the block option.
This will mark the URL as a non-blog and will help immensely with cleaning up the blogroll.

Once enough ratings have been received I can begin to work on the really exciting part… building algorithms that will match your likes and dislikes with blogs that you might like to read.
Just imagine a BlogSurfer.us surfing session that is automatically fully customized to your preferences, and the more you rate the more accurate it will become.

BLOGVERTISING! cleaning up the blogroll.

Filed under: Uncategorized — rcondron @ 4:52 am

So I am seeing a huge swarm of fake blogs being added to the Blogroll…
I am slowly going through the blogroll and blocking all fake blogs.

Here are some signs that a blog may be fake:
1. The page has more ads than content.
2. The page puts multiple adds in front of their content, in essence saying that the ads are more important than their content.
3. Bland/plain design, lack of personalization… basically showing that the author hasn’t put much time into the look and feel of the page.
4. Each post is slightly different but all about the same thing and all contain a link to a product pushing website.

These are just a few that I came up with.
